“Man is composed of three parts – an inferior trinity – he (she) is body, mind and spirit; mind being synonymous with the soul, the consciousness of man. The consciousness of man is responsive to whatever controls the man.”
– The late Pastor Chuck Smith/Calvary Chapel on Romans 8.
There has been much theological debate on the division of soul and spirit. For our purposes, we will use Pastor Smith’s explanation. Your soul is your consciousness: your personality, heart and mind. While these things will pass on, your spirit lives on. Your spirit is eternal.
For matters of the soul, leaders understand that the hardest lives to manage are our own lives. What motivates you? What is hidden in your heart? What is truly driving your actions, holding you back or propelling you forward to a greater purpose?
