For world-changers who know they are called to a higher purpose

Soul

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12

“Man is composed of three parts – an inferior trinity – he (she) is body, mind and spirit; mind being synonymous with the soul, the consciousness of man. The consciousness of man is responsive to whatever controls the man.”

– The late Pastor Chuck Smith/Calvary Chapel on Romans 8.

There has been much theological debate on the division of soul and spirit. For our purposes, we will use Pastor Smith’s explanation. Your soul is your consciousness: your personality, heart and mind. While these things will pass on, your spirit lives on. Your spirit is eternal.

For matters of the soul, leaders understand that the hardest lives to manage are our own lives. What motivates you? What is hidden in your heart? What is truly driving your actions, holding you back or propelling you forward to a greater purpose?

The Heart of Forgiveness - Robin Givens

Grace Will Lead Me Home coverRobin Givens may be best known for her abusive marriage to Mike Tyson and its tragic ending. But in this vividly evoked, intelligent memoir she makes it clear there is much more to her life.

As an honor student at Sarah Lawrence, she landed a job on the Cosby Show. She was a golden girl; success came instantly. And then she met Mike Tyson, the most powerful man on earth who made her feel safe. For a time. She vividly remembers Mike’s first punch, delivered coldly, dispassionately, and easily tossing her 105-pound frame across the room. As she details in the book he sliced her clothing to ribbons and nearly choked her to death -- yet she remained determined to love him enough to save them both. And at some point, she realized that if he didn’t kill her himself, he would drive her to do it (a taunt he made constantly).

She recounts the legacy of life-threatening domestic violence that has haunted her family for three generations and how she has managed to survive, thrive and even forgive.

In World War II she and her family risked their lives to help Jews and underground workers escape from the Nazis, and for their work they were tested in the infamous Nazi death camps.
